At
the bottom of Salisbury Crags can be found the Radical
Road constructed in 1820. The radical road was named after the men who
built it, a group of unemployed weavers from the west of Scotland who
thought that politics was the cause of their misfortune and aimed to
make things right through physical means. A committee was formed to
provide work for the radical weavers constructing roads and walkways
round the crags and calton hill.
