Duddingston Loch

Duddingston Loch administered by the Scottish Development Department is the only natural loch in the Queens Park, a bird sanctuary since 1925 and as such a very popular spot for birdwatchers. covers an area of 32 acres/ 13.1 and has an average depth of 7 foot/ 2.1 metres.

Duddingston loch has been for hundreds of years been a popular haunt for skating and curling as illustrated in the famous painting 'The Rev. Walker skating on Duddingston Loch by Sir Henry Raeburn (1756-1823)' which hangs in the National gallery of Scotland.
